An End to Procrastination | Archana Murthy | TEDxMarcusHighSchool

Humans are all united by a force greater than joy, sorrow, and love… procrastination. Contrary to the humorous picture our popular culture paints, avoidance of work is a serious issue. Surveys suggest that 85-95% of students encounter problems directly related to procrastination. As a teenager, all-too-familiar with this torrid cycle of stress, anxiety, and depression, Archana Murthy presents an insightful cure to one of society’s greatest ills. Through personal reflection, Archana suggests that the cure to procrastination is a springboard for a greater journey that is better navigated with others.

Archana Murthy is a student of Marcus High School but also of life. She learns Indian classical music and dance but loves any and all art. She believes that art, science, and spirituality are often interchangeable. This is her first TEDx talk.

If we want a better world, we’ve got to kill diet culture. | Susan Hyatt | TEDxFargo

Every year, billions of women continue a never-ending quest to lose weight and achieve the “perfect” physique. But this quest is a trap—one that keeps women sick, stressed, distracted, and depleted. To create a generation of healthy, strong women who are focused not on their body size but on solving real world problems, we must dismantle the harmful weight loss industry and the body-obsessed “diet culture” that this industry has spawned. Susan Hyatt is a master certified life and business coach who has helped thousands of women to transform their bodies and lives. Susan is the author of two books, Create Your Own Luck and BARE. Her work has been featured in places like O: The Oprah Magazine, Woman’s World, Cosmopolitan, and The Huffington Post. She’s the creator of The BARE Process, a trademarked system for upgrading your mental and physical health, building more energy and confidence, and creating the life that you want. The Transformative Power of Walking | Sandra James | TEDxCarsonCity

Vancouver BC City Planner, Sandra James gives examples of how making a community more walkable, can change the social fabric of a neighborhood or a community.

Sandy James is irrationally passionate about sustainably smart walkable communities. As a city planner for the City of Vancouver Sandy championed locally scaled neighborhood projects that virally became city policy in Vancouver and other cities. Working collaboratively with engineering staff Sandy developed the innovative 140 kilometer “green street” sustainable network of connected parks, streets and places where pedestrians have priority. Known as the “pickpocket of city hall” for her ability to find financing, Sandy was named Neighborhood Planner of the Year” by the Vancouver Sun newspaper for her work with communities. Sandy believes that promoting walkability is socially and morally the right thing to do, and chaired the international Walk 21 Conference in Vancouver in 2011. Sandy is a Director of Walk Metro Vancouver, which encourages best practices for the development of walkable places and spaces, creating communities we want to live in.
