TEDxVorobyovy-Gory — «Cosmos» — took place on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow. He holds a PhD in the History and Philosophy of Science from UCL, and is an expert on the history of alchemy (his 1994 book ‘Water Which Does Not Wet Hands’ is considered to be the standard reference work on the Polish alchemist Michael Sendivogius.)
But his polymath spirit extends further: he’s a violin, bugle and accordion player, as well as a professional photographer. Throughout the years Andrew has wowed audiences all around the world with his pyrotechnical approach to teaching and demonstrating chemical sciences on stage and has appeared many times on TV. Народный артист России Александр Филиппенко – один из немногих сегодня российских актёров, постоянно занимающихся художественным чтением и продолжающих лучшие традиции этого жанра. В рамках проекта «Внеклассные чтения» он прочтёт прозу Сергея Довлатова: финал повести «Заповедник», рассказ «Представление» из сборника «Зона», а также отрывки из других его произведений. Уехавший в эмиграцию советский писатель ставил в своих текстах острый и горький диагноз социалистическому обществу – но делал это с такой нежной иронией, что ни строчки из его произведений невозможно прочитать без смеха, а к его героям нельзя не ощутить любви. В исполнении Филиппенко рассказы Довлатова звучат так же искромётно и саркастично, как если бы их читал сам автор.
